Local Peace Committees - Some Reflections and Lessons Learned
2008. Author: Andries Odendaal and Retief Olivier
This study has the objective to survey the use of Local Peace Committees (LCPs) across the world and identify best practices. It was stimulated by the efforts to support the Nepali Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction in conceptualizing and implementing LPCs in that country. The case for LPCs in Nepal is briefly discussed. It is followed by a working definition and typology of LPCs and a discussion of the seven themes regarding the establishment and functioning of LPCs, i.e. LPCs as transitional mechanisms, the importance of mandate, composition, and main objectives.
