1991. Author: Signatories of the Agreement
Signed in September 1991, the National Peace Accord (NPA) aimed to bring an end to violence in South Africa and to establish a multi-party democracy. The agreement created a number structures intended to address and reduce violence in the country, including a National Peace Committee, a National Peace Secretariat, a Commission of Inquiry, and regional and local peace committees.
