This booklet, prepared by the Department of Political Affairs in consultation with key partners across the UN system, presents a non-exhaustive, illustrative overview of the UN’s approach to conflict prevention and preventive diplomacy. It summarizes a series of cases--from Burkina Faso, Kyrgyzstan, Liberia, Guyana and Colombia--selected to show prevention at work in diverse contexts, the different tools deployed to support national actors in preventing violent conflict, and the multiple UN actors involved in implementing these efforts, including UNDP, PBSO and OHCHR.
